Addressing symptoms of anxiety
worried woman

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing or EMDR is used to manage signs of emotional distress that are caused by traumatic life experiences. With this form of therapy, the therapist will ask the clients to follow hand motions, finger movements, or hand tapping with their eyes while asking them to recall disturbing events. Then, the therapist will progressively ask the client to think of more positive thoughts. As sessions progress, the clients’ thoughts are diverted from traumatic or anxiety-inducing events. This guides them into taking better control of their fears or anxiety and can teach them how to deal with these thoughts when they occur.

EMDR is used in the treatment of the following conditions:

  • PTSD
  • Addictions
